Lightweight silk haori rendered in a soft palette of pastel pink with faint greens and warm undertones. The surface carries an all-over shibori-style resist pattern, creating a gently crinkled texture that gives the cloth depth without weight.

The patterning is continuous, atmospheric, and freeform, comprised of modern geometries (e.g. swirling spirals and trapezoidal abstractions) as well as traditional motifs like seigaiha (Japanese waves) and tatewaku (rising steam). Subtle irregularities in color and texture reflect the handwork of the dye process, where variation is not a flaw but an inherent quality of the cloth.

This woman's haori is intended for informal wear and seasonal layering.

PROVENANCE

These kimonos come from the private collection of Christine Ong, a Peranakan Singaporean singer and entrepreneur now associated with the preeminent Asian publisher Tuttle. Ong is an esteemed collector of Asian cultural artifacts, including Japanese textiles, which she sources from defunct kimono collectors and stores in Japan.
